OCPD

Many people with Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) have often been described as “anal” or as a “perfectionist”.

It should not be confused with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). “People with OCD have unwanted thoughts, while people with OCPD believe that their thoughts are correct.¹” In general, people with OCPD do not have the “presence of intrusive or disturbing thoughts, impulses, images or ideas (obsessions), accompanied by repeated attempts to suppress these thoughts through the performance of irrational and ritualistic behaviors or mental acts (compulsions).²”

DSM IV defines OCPD as “A pervasive pattern of preoccupation with orderliness, perfectionism, and mental and interpersonal control, at the expense of flexibility, openness, and efficiency, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts.³”
